Rough Sketches

These sketches are exploring the relationship between spaces, be it shapes (dome, hexagonal prism, cylinder, rectangular prism) or the division of spaces, in what they 'say' to do.

There will be 3 main spaces (top, middle, basement)
1. Glass dome, where my character can sit and think, overlooking the land. Place of reflection, close to the heavens.
2. 'Den', where the study room is. Only three windows (every second surface of the hexagonal prism), therefore not too much light and interesting shadows. Tall book shelves with ladder. Instruments in shelves too. Lots of storage space- cluttered with interesting things. This place could represent earth or the present - where the bulk of the progressional thinking is done.
3. Basement. Relaxation and enjoyment happens here- this is where the character would entertain guests of high intellect and they would drink from the bar, have snacks and discuss matters of importance. Could symbolise 'hell' or the underground world as it could be a place of sin where alcohol is drunk.

I tried to have the ideaology of heaven, earth and hell in my design as the painting did have that undercurrent of God being in the background, inferring that everything that you can learn i.e. the 'mysteries of life' have been created by God.

The transitional space is a glass enclosed spiral staircase. I thought it was appropriate to make this glass as it could be a place of reflection.
